Billing is based on the number of active units in your account. Vacant units still count. Demo units do not count.

How the unit count is calculated

Your monthly charge is based on the number of billable units that were active at any point during that month. Here is the short version:

How it works in detail

Adding a unit

When you add a new unit it becomes active immediately and is counted for the current month. If you add it on the last day of the month it still counts for that month.

Deactivating or deleting a unit

Deactivating or deleting a unit removes it from future months but does not credit the current month. If a unit was active for any part of a month - even one day - it appears in that month's count.

This is intentional. It prevents the billing from being gamed by deactivating units at the end of the month and reactivating them at the start of the next one.

Carry-forward

Units that are still active at the end of a month automatically carry into the next month. You do not need to do anything - the count starts the new month at whatever was active at the end of the prior month. In the billing history view you will see a "Carried from prior month" row at the bottom of each month showing how many units rolled over and which ones they were.

Reactivating a unit

If you deactivate a unit and later reactivate it, it is treated as a new activation for billing purposes. If the unit had no other activity in the current month it adds to that month's count.

The running count

The billing history in Settings > Billing shows a running count column. This count only goes up - it increases when units are added or activated, and does not decrease when units are deactivated or deleted within the same month. That is by design: the count reflects the peak number of units you managed during the month, which is what determines the charge.

Example: You start May with 10 units. You add 2 more on May 10 (count goes to 12), then deactivate 1 on May 20 (count stays at 12). Your May bill is based on 12 units. June starts with 11 units carried forward - the 10 original plus the 2 added, minus the 1 deactivated.

After the trial

When your 60-day trial ends you'll be prompted to enter a payment method. Your data is never deleted when a trial expires - everything is waiting for you when you subscribe.
